Preventative dentistry

Major  causes of tooth loss are decay and gum disease. Regular visits to a dental hygienist or dentist will help enable you to keep your mouth in great health by giving advice on how to prevent such disease. Preventing decay may involve advice on diet, brushing and fluoride suplements, and gum disease can be prevented with advice on brushing techniques that are easy and effective, along with regular visits with our hygienist to remove any calculus and staining that has built up.
Prevention advice starts early

Preventative dentistry is our priority
Our dentists may recommend a course of treatment to get your mouth into good condition and then a maintenance plan will be worked out to suit your needs.

Everyone is susceptible in varying degrees to common dental diseases such as tooth decay and gum disease and our aim is to help you reduce or eliminate your experience of these.

Our care plans are designed to encourage regular attendance with the one of our three hygienists, and regular reviews of the health of your teeth, gums and mouth. From this we can customise our advice and treatment that we provide you.

New Telephone number

r
To enhance the service we provide our callers, we have changed our telephone number to:

0844 3879999

As from 29th February 2010

With the new system,

  • Your calls will be allocated more efficiently and answered more quickly
  • your calls should be shorter
  • in most cases will not cost you more than a local call

Over 1,500 GP and dental surgeries have now switched to 0844 numbers for the reason that their patients receive a better service. There are many benefits, but the main one is that it is now easier for patients to get through to make appointments. This is also supported by evidence from independent practice patient surveys, which repeatedly highlight the improved service. Whilst we appreciate that change can be inconvenient, we are confident that you will see an improvement in the telephone service we are able to offer you.

What are implants?

In most situations, dental implants are the ideal way of replacing missing teeth. A dental implant takes the place of the missing tooth’s root, and an all-ceramic dental crown or dental bridge, secured to a dental implant, provides a complete and beautiful solution for improving your smile. We can replace single teeth, multiple teeth and even all of the teeth. There is no need for dentures or to trim adjacent teeth for bridges.

A number of different types of implants and techniques exist with dental implant therapy. At Manningtree Dental practice, each case is assessed in great detail. As a patient, your clinical options will be fully discussed with you and a treatment plan established to reflect your unique needs. The length of your treatment can range from 3 to 12 months depending on the complexity of your care. Mr Clamp has undergone two year long courses at the Eastman Dental Hospital, the international centre of excellence in postgraduate dental education, and gained the certificate in surgical and prosthetic implantology, and the certificate in advanced implantology.

For the more complex cases, we are assisted by Carl Manhem, an implant specialist in Harley Street and senior lecturer in implantology at the Eastman.

Tooth whitening

Tooth whitening is a great way to freshen the appearance of your smile by permanently lightening the shade of your teeth without weakening them.

This works by bleaching the internal structure of the teeth using a specially formulated hydrogen peroxide agent, and although this may be slightly sensitive for a day or so, we can usually expect a six to eight shade improvement. The effects of this will be permanent, but as teeth naturally slowly get darker over time, so will the effects of the whitening.

Cerec all-ceramic fillings and crowns in one visit

Cerec all-ceramic restorations

We are now able to fit bridges, crowns, veneers and long lasting ceramic white fillings in one visit, without the need for impressions. These restorations are actually bonded, rather than just glued in position and this helps strengthen the tooth as a whole. Using the Cerec system, we can also do this in one visit which means less injections, no impressions or temporary fillings and inconvenient additional visits.

To summarise, Cerec ceramic restorations are ideal if:

  • You want a long lasting restoration.
  • You want to keep as much of your own natural tooth as possible.
  • You want to minimize the number of trips to the surgery.
  • You want your teeth to look as natural as possible

Our Hygienists

Our Hygienists are specialised to give oral health instruction and treat gum disease. They are extremely valuable members of our team and have as much experience as our dentists have in treating routine gum disease as well as having more time available to treat you.

Your appointment with the hygienist for a scale and polish is as important for your teeth as an appointment with a dentist for a filling.

Please note that a hygienist can only see you if a dentist has referred you to them.

Keeping up with advanced techiques

Exciting advances in materials and techniques mean that dentistry is rapidly evolving for the benefit of patients. We are now able to offer you many options that are reliable and cosmetic that we couldn't even imagine a few years ago. Examples of such advances include tooth whitening, dental implants, all ceramic restorations, fillings and crowns that are designed and manufactured by computer and fitted in one visit.
We have also invested in advances in more routine dentistry.Digital xrays mean that we can get more accurate images, instantly for a fraction of the xray dose. Advances in root treatment equipment mean that we can carry these procedures more comfortably, more accurately and less need for x-rays.

We are able to keep up to date with current techniques by investing heavily in education and equipment so that we are able to offer state of the art dentistry for the benefit of our patients.
