We are now able to fit bridges, crowns, veneers and long lasting ceramic white fillings in one visit, without the need for impressions. These restorations are actually bonded, rather than just glued in position and this helps strengthen the tooth as a whole. Using the Cerec system, we can also do this in one visit which means less injections, no impressions or temporary fillings and inconvenient additional visits.

How CEREC restorations are made
 |
The tooth is prepared and a digital impression is taken. From this, the restoration is designed on a computer and then this is milled. This is then polished or glazed and bonded in place. |

We prepare the tooth specifically for cerec restorations. Usually this means less tooth removal as we are able to take advantage of the additional strength that these fillings give the tooth through modern bonding techniques. Previously, any tooth that may have been regarded as weak (because amalgam did not bond to it) was removed and replaced with the restoration. This can take up to 30 minutes. |

The tooth is then coated with a fine powder and an extremely accurate 3d image of the tooth is acquired on a computer using a camera. From this image, the restoration is designed and a virtual filling or crown can be constructed digitally and checked for shape and fit. This can take up to 15minutes |

We the dentist is happy with the design, the information is sent wirelessly to a milling machine that can manufacture the restoration with stunning precision from a selected block of porcelain with a shade and translucency to match your teeth. This can take 10 minutes. |

The restoration is tried in and checked on the tooth, then polished and bonded in place. This takes about 15 minutes. Occasionally we may need to further customise the shade further with stains and glaze the crown in a furnace. This can take a further 20 minutes. For much much of the appointment you can read a book or watch the restoration being milled- and you don’t need to come back for another appointment. |
